The Young Scientist Symposium will be hosted online by the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria). IST Austria is a PhD granting institution located in Klosterneuburg, 18 km from the center of Vienna.

The Institute is dedicated to cutting-edge fundamental research in life sciences, physical and formal sciences. Established in 2009, the institute has currently around 50 research groups under contract and will grow to about 90 research groups by 2026. IST Austria is an interdisciplinary research institution that aims to break down the traditional boundaries between disciplines. It fosters both theoretical and experimental research, with an emphasis on close and meaningful collaborations between the two camps.

Recently, IST Austria was portrayed in a Nature article, devoted to leading young research institutes with promising research developments. It is rated in the top 10 of Nature’s top 30 under 30.

Joining the webinar

The Zoom login information and webinar link will be emailed out to all registered participants the day before the event.

Zoom works best with Mac and Windows rather than Linux, please consider this if you have the choice. In case you don’t want to download the Zoom app, it is best to use Chrome (or another browser) for joining the webinar. 

Throughout the event you will be able to see the speakers and their presentations, but you as an attendee will never be visible or audible.

Some of the talks will be recorded and shared after the meeting. You are not allowed to make and share your own recordings.

If you experience technical issues, let us know via the Zoom chat, but please be aware we may not have the capacity to respond to you.

Asking questions during the day

During talks, please write your questions for the speaker in the Q&A box in Zoom. Some of these will be answered by the speaker at the end of their presentation.

At 17.15, there will be a panel discussion with some of our speakers. Please write your questions for the panel throughout the day via, event code #26875. Other attendees will be able to up-vote the best questions.
